New Delhi: Naked protests were so far associated with only Western countries. But not any more, they have finally arrived in India.

On Tuesday, naked members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) will mimic packages of frozen meat outside the International Livestock and Dairy Expo India, lying on large trays covered with clear plastic.

PeTA India campaigns coordinator N G Jayasimha said the demonstration will be an attempt to challenge people to really think about what 'meat' is.

"Eating flesh means eating the corpse of a tortured animal who did not want to die. We encourage kind consumers to give vegetarianism a try," he explained.

He said animals are hit, dragged and cruelly and illegally handled and are often not provided with even basic necessities such as food water or veterinary treatment.

"Animals slaughtered for meat are crammed into vehicles in such large numbers that many are severely injured or die en route," he pointed out.

"At the slaughter house, they are killed in front of each other and are often dismembered and skinned while they are still conscious," he said. PeTA aims to demonstrate that all animals, including humans, are flesh, blood and bones and eating meat is 'literally, eating a corpse'.
