National Crisis Management Committee reviews relief operations in eartquake-hit Nepal

New Delhi: The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), headed by Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth, today reviewed the status of rescue and relief operations undertaken by various Indian government agencies in different parts of Nepal in the wake of the devastating earthquake.

The National Disaster Response Force is continuing with its search and rescue operations in the Himalayan country and has rescued 11 persons and retrieved 129 dead bodies so far, an official release said.

NCMC noted that different state governments, too, have intensified efforts towards providing relief material to Nepal, among these, tents, tarpaulins, medicines, dry foods and water.

The medical teams sent by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have made two operation theatres functional and have handled more than 20 cases.

Experts from India are involved in restoration of power lines, communication networks and other relief related activities in various parts of Nepal, the release added.

Those desirous of sending relief material to Nepal may give details to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Control Room at Helpline No.1078, it said.
