Panaji: Goa Police has proposed a major demarcation of its jurisdiction by creating eight new sub divisional offices and several other police stations across the state, a senior official said.
The state police department has submitted the mega proposal to Goa government which will further cut down the area of several police stations and sub divisional offices, paving way for better policing in the tourist state.
"The detailed proposal has been submitted to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar who has reacted positively towards it. We would be redrawing the limits of certain police stations and create additional sub divisional offices in a phased manner. To begin with, we have prioritised few of the police stations and sub divisional offices," Superintendent of Police (HQ) Vishram Borkar told PTI on Friday.
The proposal submitted to the state government has prioritised the creation of sub divisional offices at Anjuna, Pernem, Maina-Curtorim and Colva, while creation of new police stations at Mardol, Shiroda, Navelim, Aldona, Colvale and Fatorda.
Borkar said the area has been demarcated depending upon the work pressure for each police station.
"There are some police stations which cover vast area and work pressure is more. Similar is the case with the Sub Divisional Police Officer rank," he said.
The division of the areas are done in such a way that the city area police station does not have to cover suburban localities, Borkar said.
In North Goa's tourism belt, a separate sub divisional office has been proposed at Anjuna which will also have newly created police station at Arpora besides existing Anjuna police station.
Similarly for south Goa's coastal belt, a proposal has been submitted to create Sub Divisional Police office at Colva which will have additional police station at Benaulim along with current Colva police station.
This belt in south Goa is known for its heavy tourist inflow because of beaches.
