Mumbai: CNN-IBN's Hindi news arm, IBN7, has received exclusive information that the Mumbai Police and Crime Branch are now in possession of the controversial forensic report in Rahul Raj's case.

The report says Rahul Raj - the youth who was killed by police in a shootout aboard a BEST bus that he had hijacked - was not shot from close range but from at least four metres away.

This contradicts what the earlier report of the doctor who conducted an autopsy on Raj's body, Dr Chikalkar. The claimed doctor had claimed earlier this month that Raj had been shot at from a close range.

He had said that some black marks found around the bullet wound on Raj may indicate that bullets were fired at him from a close range. The doctor had later gone back on his statement refusing to comment further on it.

"The report was submitted to the Mumbai Police on Friday. Its findings state that the bullets were fired at Raj from beyond four metres," sources were quoted by news agencies as saying on Saturday.

"Samples of skin from around the bullet wounds were sent to the Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory in order to assess the distance from which the bullets were fired," the sources stated.

The sources added that the shooting could be classified as long-distance firing.

Rahul Raj, a resident of Patna, was killed by the police in a shootout after he hijacked a BEST bus and held 12 passengers hostage in suburban Kurla on October 27.

The killing sparked a furore with several parties in Bihar demanding a judicial probe into the incident.
