NH mishap toll rises to seven

PALAKKAD: The death toll in the accident which occurred on the National Highway at Vadakkummuri near Kannadi rose to seven on Saturday. Fifteen persons who were injured in the incident, were being treated at different hospitals.The mishap, which occured on Saturday night, was a result of a multiple crash involving four vehicles- a lorry, a mini van, mini bus and an autorickshaw.The seventh person, who died at the Thrissur Medical College on Saturday, was Sreedevi, 42, wife of Sivadasan, of Vallikattil, Kazhani in Kavassery. The six who lost their lives earlier were travelling in the mini bus. They have been identified as Anjana, 11, daughter of Sivadasan, Madhavi, 60, wife of Madhavan, of Kazhani, Kavassery in Alathur, their daughter-in-law Sujatha, 42, Aiswarya, 17, daughter of Bindu, of Kavassery, Rajan Varghese, 41, of Thurupumpadi, Perumbavoor and Manikantan, 40, of Kuluvanmukku in Kuzhalmannam.The accident happened when a lorry loaded with jack fruits, collided with a mini van, lost control and overturned. The impact completely mangled the mini van. It fell on an autorickshaw which came that way.
