BANGALORE: It has missed many dates and its elusive nature is all set to continue as the National Military Memorial (NMM), touted to be opened on December 16 (Vijay Diwas), will miss its deadline again.Developers of the NMM have stated that the project is ‘80 per cent complete, but not yet ready for inauguration’. An official who spoke to Express said that the new date is likely to be January 26. “All of the works except the landscaping, water harvesting and Veera Gallu, are in place,” the official said. Stating that Member of Parliament (MP) Rajeev Chandrashekar has written to Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda urging him to expedite the works at the earliest, the official said that all works have to be completed within another month. The NMM which has witnessed considerable turbulence after the idea was conceived, is likely to be delayed again. Earlier, the developers had claimed that the State government was sitting on the approval of the tender for the transportation of the ‘Veeragallu’. “The 75 feet Veeragallu is being made in Koira Quarry in Devanahalli Village in the outskirts of the city,” developers of the project added. They shared that the delay in the government giving its nod for the `1.9 crore required for the transportation of the structure is causing further delay in the project. The structure requires specialised transportation and the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is said to have sent the tender for approval and also a reminder for the same as any tender above `1 crore requires the government’s approval.
