Carrying out baby deliveries is a very tough job and requires fine skills. We often hear news of people doing the same for a long time without formal training. Today, we are going to talk about one such woman who has reportedly carried out over 2,000 baby deliveries. The woman did the deliveries without any modern technology but none of the deliveries failed.
The name of the woman is Impulamma. She is a resident of Niduvale village of Mudigere taluka in Chikkamagaluru district, Karnataka. The woman migrated from the coastal region of Malnad and settled in the area. Initially after migrating to the village she started working in a coffee estate.
As there was a lack of medical facilities, she used to carry out baby deliveries for her own family. Later, she started helping her neighbours with baby deliveries. She successfully carried out the deliveries and earned huge respect from her community. With over 2,000 successful deliveries she earned the nickname Delivery Impulamma in the region of Mudigere taluka.
During that time there were no proper medical facilities available in that area. People had to travel to nearby cities to receive proper treatment. In such a condition, the 80-year-old woman became a trusted figure for baby deliveries in several areas around Mudigere. She did many successful baby deliveries in areas like Markuli, Chandravalli and Javali among others. She was also called Doctor by many people in the village. With her instinct and skills, she was able to carry out the tough task.
In an interview, she mentioned that she never encountered any problems regarding any of the deliveries. She said with joy that all the children she delivered were healthy and happy. Impulamma further said that those children sometimes visit her which makes her happy.
Impulamma stated that she never carried out this job for the sake of money and never charged a penny. She accepted anything that the family offered her out of love. She said that she enjoyed the work and considered the job to be sacred. The woman stopped doing baby deliveries three years back due to old age.
