NABARANGPUR: The State Government’s delay in providing compensation to the bereaved family of PSO Prasant Patro (Pinku), who was killed along with Umerkote MLA Jagabandhu Majhi, is creating resentment among the police personnel here.A meagre Rs 10,000 has so far been given to the family. In a release, the district unit of havildar and constable association demanded immediate provision of compensation to Pinku’s family. The association threatened to boycott work if it is not done at the earliest. DIG Soumendra Priyadarshi, however, said the police department is waiting for the Crime Branch investigation to be completed as the quantum of compensation depends on the final findings. He added that family members of Pinku will be duly compensated and one eligible member will also get a job. Similar is the plight of Ramesh Gond, a poor tribal who sustained bullet injuries in the incident. He was there on the fateful day to receive land patta from Majhi. He is presently undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical, Cuttack, and the administration provided just Rs 15,000 for treatment after a public outcry.  After the incident, Gond __a daily wager __ was admitted to MKCG Medical, Berhampur.  The district administration extended no help to him till media highlighted his poor financial condition.Gond is the lone earning member in his family.
