It was decided that the issue of moving a no-confidence motion against the Speaker would be discussed by BJP leaders.

New Delhi: The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a no-confidence motion to be moved against the Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.

The demand was made at a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, which was chaired by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and attended by Leaders of Opposition in Parliament L K Advani and Jaswant Singh, besides party President Rajnath Singh and many others.

Party MPs also raised voice against Chatterjee releasing a book on 'Office of Profit' on Monday.

They said that the Speaker himself was involved in that.

They also alleged that Chatterjee had released a book on Nepalese Communists a few days back.

It was decided at the meeting that the issue of moving a no-confidence motion against the Speaker would discussed decided by the leaders of the party in both Houses, which would be further discussed with their counterparts in other parties, sources said.

BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman V K Malhotra said the move comes as a result of the pressing demand by party members, who questioned the role of the Speaker and held him guilty.

Chatterjee holds the leadership of Sriniketan Santiniketan Development Authority.

The party MPs also sought the resignation of Finance Minister P Chidambaram as they held him solely responsible for the worst Sensex crash.

The MPs decided to boycott the second roundtable conference on Kashmir in Srinagar beginning on May 24 to protest against the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Doda district of the State.

Official sources said that this decision was conveyed by the party's Jammu and Kashmir unit to the State government. The government has extended the invitation to the State BJP president Nirmal Singh and party general secretary for the conference.
