BELGAUM: A month after District Planning Officer of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) Dr A B Kulkarni’s alleged role in misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 2.39 crore surfaced, the police arrested him in Raichur on Tuesday. After the allegations were made, District Health Officer Dilip Kumar Munnolli had filed a complaint with the Tilakwadi police. Kulkarni, who was at large since April 21, was suspended from service two days ago. Kulkarni was given the responsibility of providing services to tribals residing in the thick forest area of Khanapur taluk. He was also sanctioned two mobile health units. According to sources, Kulkarni had spent Rs 2.39 crore for the unit and other works, but had not maintained the records for the money spent. The alleged misappropriation came to light after the ZP vice-president and chief accountant visited the office at Khanapur and checked the documents. The officials found that Kulkarni had not obtained permission from higher officials before purchasing the medicines and created bogus bills for the purchased medicines.Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil had formed a team to arrest Kulkarni.
