VELLORE: Get the best education and become the best in your chosen field of interest. This was the advice given to students of VIT university by the Superintendent of Police, A Kayalvizhi during World Women’s Day celebrations on Wednesday.“We have to challenge the crimes against women,” she urged the gathering. According to her, when the first IPS woman officer assumed office in Tamil Nadu long back, she was the only woman among 16 men, but now things have changed as there are 16 women out of the 26.Dr Rangarajan Mahalakshmi, chairperson and managing trustee of Vel Tech Dr RR and SR Technical University, Chennai described women as multi-taskers and leaders of transformation. “Feel happy to be a woman,” she said, adding that youngsters should be sensitive to underprivileged women around them.VIT chancellor G Viswanathan pointed out that countries which focused on women’s development had progressed. Free higher education and employment for women were key, he said.
