PAC to ask Government to resume unused lands

The PAC under the chairmanship of Revuri Prakash Reddy (TDP), toured industries located in Sangareddy and Patancheru in Medak district on Thursday as part of reviewing the objections mentioned in the CAG report on land allocation.Several industries did not take up any construction works in the lands they acquired from the government at cheaper price.The PAC team initially inspected the lands of Pearl Breweries Pvt. Ltd. at Kotlapur village in Sangareddy mandal. Prakash Reddy directed joint collector Sarath to submit a report in the next 15 days on how Pearl Breweries acquired lands from farmers through APIIC and reassigned the same to United Beverages, how many acres of land was it actually allotted and at what price, number of oustees and compensation paid to them, whether the displaced were working with the Pearl Breweries or not and how many of them were regularised.The oustees met the PAC team and lamented that they were paid Rs 1.5 lakh per acre of land by the government as against the market value of Rs 20 lakh.However, collector A Dinakar Babu clarified that the displaced gave consent in writing to give away their lands if their kin were offered jobs in the industry. Further, the compensation was paid as per the directions of the government, he added.The PAC members later inspected the lands of Sri Sai Brick Industries, MRS Jwala Chemicals, Arora Automall IT Park and Lucky Semiconductors at Patancheru besides the government lands at Srinagar Colony in Ramachandrapuram.The PAC expressed shock over the manner in which lands allotted to industries were not brought to use and, instead, mortgaged to secure loans for other purposes.Later addressing newsmen at the residence of MLC V Bhupal Reddy, Prakash Reddy said the PAC has found certain irregularities during land allotment and added that the government incurred a loss to the tune of Rs 14 crore while assigning lands to the breweries in Kotlapur.Also, several complaints were received from the oustees against the industries for not offering jobs.first published:August 31, 2012, 11:10 ISTlast updated:August 31, 2012, 11:10 IST
