BANGALORE: The state government is most likely to appoint Lalrokhuma Pachau as the new interim DG & IGP.With the present ad hoc DG & IGP A R Infant retiring on Thursday, the government would appoint Pachau to the top cop’s post.Earlier, the government has been embarrassed over appointing Shankar M Bidari as DG & IGP by overlooking Infant’s seniority and misleading the UPSC empanelment committee.Apparently, the government did not give correct information on the alleged human rights violation by Bidari while he was the STF Chief in the operations against the forest brigand Veerappan. With the legal battle between Infant and Bidari continuing till Monday, the government is yet to send the list of senior IPS officers of the state to the UPSC empanelment committee, which will further suggest three officers for the top job.The government can have its discretion in selecting one of them. The government would appoint a regular DG & IGP only after it gets names from the UPSC.Sources also said that once the process is complted, it is most likely that the government would appoint Pachau as the regular DG & IGP.If that happens, he would probably be the most long standing DG & IGP of the state as he will be retiring only by July 2015.Pachau, an officer of 1977 IPS batch, had completed his stint as DGP of Mizoram, which is his home state. With DGP (CID) R K Datta opting to serve as Additional Director of the CBI, the chances of Pachau’s appointment have become stronger.Meanwhile, ADGP Om Prakash and Bipin Gopalakrishna will be promoted to the rank of DGP on Thursday.
