Paes-Stosur out of mixed doubles

London: Leander Paes and Samantha Stosur crashed out of the mixed doubles event on Thursday.

The fourth seeds lost to the unseeded pair of Bob Bryan and Venus Williams in the quarterfinals. But all hope is not lost.

Paes is not entirely out of Wimbledon for he plays the semifinals alongside Martin Damm in the men's doubles.

They will be up against sixth seeds, Fabrice Santoro and Nenad Zimonjic.

In other Wimbledon news, Roger Federer will take on Jonas Bjorkman in the first of the two semifinals.

The Swiss will play against doubles specialist Bjorkman to set up a final against either Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis or his 2006 nemesis Rafael Nadal, who has beaten him in four finals this year.

Second seed Rafael Nadal ground down Finland's Jarkko Nieminen 6-3 6-4 6-4 on Thursday to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals and set up a meeting with Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis.

Double French Open champion Nadal, looking more and more comfortable on unfamiliar grass courts, wore down Nieminen's resistance in long baseline rallies, breaking his serve in each set.
