Lahore: A spirited Pakistan drew level with arch-rivals India after winning the second leg of the Indo-Pak tennis tie by clinching both the singles matches on Wednesday.
Aqeel Khan shocked Rohan Bopanna 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the first rubber before Aisam Qureshi outclassed Karan Rastogi 6-1, 6-4 in the second.
India had won the first of four-Test series 2-1 in Islamabad on Tuesday. The third and fourth ties are to be played in Chandigarh and New Delhi.
The Indians seemed to struggle in adjusting to the change in court conditions, from clay in Islamabad to grass in Lahore.
Aqeel played beyond himself to take the first set against Bopanna.
The Bangalorean rediscovered his form quickly to take the second but he seemed to blow off his fuse due to a couple of line calls with the Pakistani serving 2-3.
Bopanna lost his serve in the very next game and from there the match.
Rastogi, on the other hand, paid the price for taking too long to come to terms with the grass surface.
But Qureshi, who hails from Lahore and routinely plays on grass when at home, relished the conditions.
Qureshi, who partnered Leander Paes at the Mumbai Open ATP Tour event last month, was at his best serving form and had a first serve percentage of 80-85. It was not surprising then that Rastogi was swept away.
