CHENNAI: For the first time during the Budget session of the State Assembly, the Left parties, allies of the ruling AIADMK staged a walk out on Wednesday over the Paramakudi police firing. Members of Puthiya Thamizhagam and the PMK also staged a walk out on the same issue, while the DMK continued its ‘silent walk-out’ for the sixth consecutive day on Wednesday too. During zero hour, leaders of CPI, CPM and PT attempted to speak on the firing incident. Since the Speaker refused permission saying Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had already given a detailed reply on the issue, they staged a walk out. After the walk-out, RPI leader CK Thamizharasan hailed the steps taken by the government to restore peace in Paramakudi and Jayalalithaa’s concern for Dalits and appealed to her hike the solatium for the victims. Replying, the CM said: “Had the Opposition parties agreed to the DRO inquiry ordered earlier, the report could have been received earlier and the fresh demands for hiking solatium and action against the police officers could have been considered. Now that an inquiry commission has been appointed, the government can’t take any action unilaterally. The government will take action in accordance with the report of the Commission.”
