Islamabad: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has expressed unhappiness over remarks by some prominent leaders of ruling PML-Q praising Baloch rebel leader Nawab Akbar Bugti, who was killed in an encounter with Pakistan Army.
The President, while maintaining that the operations against ‘miscreants’ would continue, voiced reservations over statements from some members of the ruling coalition condemning the killing, Daily Times reported.
During a high-power meeting of officials and ruling party politicians in Muree on Sunday, Musharraf was apparently unhappy over the statements made by PML-Q President Shujat Hussain and former Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali praising Bugti.
Hussain, a close confidant of Musharraf, slammed the killing of Bugti saying "its a very sad incident. It should not have happened."
He expressed gratitude to Bugti for saving his father Zahoor Elahi after his arrest by the Bhutto government in 1973.
He said Bugti had refused to participate in a plan to murder Elahi and instead provided him with security during his incarceration in Balochistan.
"I am indebted to him. How can we forget his great favour to our family," said Hussain, who along with PML-Q, Secretary General Mushahid Hussain formed part of the Parliamentary Committee that negotiated a settlement of Bugti's demand for provincial autonomy.
But the autonomy deal failed, as it was not implemented by the government, which opted to launch military operations against Bugti.
