BANGALORE: The seer of Pejawar Mutt Sri Vishweshwa Theertha Swamiji will inaugurate the Dasara festival this year. This was decided in the high level committee on Dasara celebrations held in city on Monday which was chaired by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.
"The seer will inaugurate the festival which begins on September 28. It is to honour his service to the society. This was unanimously decided in the meeting of the elected representatives and officials in the meeting," Yeddyurappa said. He also said that the district administration has been instructed to increase the capacity of Banni Mantap grounds where a torch light parade is conducted on the concluding day of the nineday festival. "I have informed officials to think of ways to enhance the tone and content of the torchlight parade in order to make it more attractive and meaningful," the CM added.

According to Yeddyurappa, new toilets and wash rooms could be constructed in all schools and colleges which could be used for the benefit of lakhs of visitors after which these will be become the permanent assets for the educational institutions.

The CESCOM will be directed to look after the lighting of the entire city at their cost and city corporation along with other civic agencies, have been directed to start work on asphalting roads and relaying of pavements, he said. "I want the works to start immediately so that quality can be maintained and finished well in time," he explained.

MP H Vishwanath, legislators Tanveer Sait and H S Shankaralinge Gowda were present on the occasion.
