BANGALORE: Dr Mahendra M was hopeful of getting a postgraduate medical seat in a good college and was allotted a radiology seat at the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute. This was in the first round of PostGraduate Entrance Test (PGET) counselling conducted by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).
In the second round, he was reallotted an orthopaedics seat at Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore. However, the private college management denied admission to him and eight other students. Another candidate, Prasanna Naik, was also denied a seat by the same management. "In the first round of counselling, I got a seat in JJM Medical College (JJMMC), Davangere. I am ranked 1,400 and fall under general category. I couldn't get a seat at JJMMC, but was allotted a MD in General Medicine seat at Vydehi. But they asked me to check with the RGUHS, where I didn't get any proper response. I have missed the seat at JJMMC and now, don't have a seat at Vydehi, too. There are a lot of discrepancies in the PGET and we can't even afford to fight a case spending money. The only alternative is to wait for one more year," explained Naik.

When TNIE contacted Medical Education Minister S A Ramadas, he asserted that all students, who got admitted through the PostGraduate Entrance Test (PGET) counselling by the RGUHS, would be admitted to private medical institutes without exception. "We have filed a petition before the High Court regarding the issue and it is pending. When this institute has admitted eligible students from the first round of counselling, how can it deny for the second round? It amounts to contempt of court and all have to fall in line with the court decision," he said.
