Shoring up courage to speak out, Kerala Police Association (KPA), the reins of which are in the hands of pro-UDF members now, has come down heavily on the CPM and warned that those who think that they can frighten the police by preparing `hit lists’ and proceed as per it can be viewed only as `nonsense.’
Without naming the CPM directly, a resolution adopted by the state committee of the KPA here on Friday reminded that those who are targeting cops and their family members are citizens of the land.
“Those who think that they can pull back cops from their duty by threatening them and their family members with ghastly acts not conforming to a civilised and democratic society are living in a fool’s paradise,” the resolution presented by Association vice-president V K Narayanan asserted.
“When the police are moving ahead in a non-partisan and judicious manner with the probe in the two murder cases in Kozhikode and Kannur districts, officials and even their pregnant wives and family members are being targeted and their properties damaged. But even if our lives are sacrificed, we will protect the lives and properties of commoners in the state,” the resolution said.
Association president P D Unni presided over the meet.
The Association, which is the sole representative organisation of lower-rung cops in the state, is remaining pro-UDF for a second year in succession after the exit of the LDF Government.
