TIRUCHY: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday announced a spate of schemes for her constituency, Srirangam, and said the first challenge of her government  was to set right the State administration which had been totally ruined by the previous DMK government.“When we reviewed the works in various departments, we found that the administration is in total disarray,” she said.Assuring that the State would be converted into a model State, she said “when it is achieved, Tamil Nadu can be compared to none.” Listing the various welfare the AIADMK had announced, she said the welfare schemes of  the DMK government benefited a few. But, the schemes introduced by our government would benefit none but the poor.“By providing PDS rice free of cost, we have ensured food security for the State,” she said. She also mentioned the other schemes including four grams of gold for mangalsutra, marriage assistance for educated girls, hike in old-age pension, increase in compensation for fishermen during the fishing ban period and green houses in an area of 300 square feet at `1.8 lakh for the poor. She also reiterated that grinders, mixies and fans would be provided from the birth anniversary of Dravidian leader C N Annadurai. “We have introduced several schemes to facilitate human resource development,” she said and cited the free laptops scheme for students, as example. “We are providing free laptops to nine lakh students this year,” she added.“You have taught a lesson to DMK chief Karunanidhi who thought of buying your votes using his money. You have upheld democracy without becoming slaves to money power,” she said.“For that, I do not want to thank you by just letters and words, but by welfare schemes. I am happy to announce schemes worth `190.18 crore for Srirangam,” she added.A dormitory at a cost of `36.4 crore will be built for devotees at Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple, Sri Akilandeswari temple at TV koil, Mariamman temple at Samayapuram, she said.
