Some say that the military is an integrating force while others think the English language helps knit India together. But G Moses, founder of Millennium Media, thinks otherwise. This patriot believes in integrating the nation through art forms as they’re known for their miraculous power of bringing out the best in humankind. Aiming to promote human excellence through art forms he plans to stage performance art augmented by fine arts with the support of local artists as well in every state. He commenced his nation-wide programme with Yakshagana, a regional art form, in Bangalore. Yakshagana is a popular form of dance drama in Karnataka that has been depicting mythological themes from time immemorial. Deviating from the epics, Moses will be conceptualising it with a dash of patriotic elements and blending it into a new story. “I had introduced scenes in which there’s a fight for a temple, of a king who pays little regard to his subjects and about the fight for the division of kingdoms. Sick and tired of the battles raging in her country Bharat Mata comes down and tells them the two kingdoms are akin to her two eyes. Her words are eye-openers to the people who realise the values of peace and harmony, in the last piece,” says Moses.Yakshagana exponents Narayan Mata and Troupe have arrived in Kochi all the way from Kasargod to rock the stage with their performance.“The eleven-member troupe will show how Bhumi Devi is being attacked by Narakasura and how Krishna comes in the form of Vamana to free her from the clutches of the demon. Bhumi Devi is Mother India and the Narakasura the corrupt and evil forces trying to break the unity in diversity of the nation,” says Moses. The Yakshagana performance sponsored by the Song and Drama Division, Bangalore Regional Centre of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, will be staged on Friday at 5 pm at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan auditorium. It will be augmented by an art demonstration by Pramod Gopalakrishnan, an artist in Kochi. The artistic piece will be a tribute to master painter M F Husain.Moses hopes to weed out evils by creating awareness through the cathartic power of performance art. The Millennium Media has also performed a Jugal Bandhi of Carnatic and Hindustani for promoting national integration and a flute recital in Bangalore. “Our core aims of promoting art and above all a commitment to human excellence help us bring artists and audience together and share many things in common,” says Moses who has been into performance art from the age of six. Born and brought up in Bangalore he traces his roots to Tamil Nadu. Moses has been in theatre donning different roles.“I have acted in many translated versions of Shakespeare’s plays,” he says. The Millennium Media brought out a magazine, Trio, to provide a space for artists to express their thoughts and feelings. “Trio can either stand for dance, drama and music or for peace, prosperity and progress which are the symbols of human excellence, our ultimate goal,” he says. People from all walks of life who share a similar passion are part of the Millennium Media team and like-minded people can join them, says Moses.
