People were protesting against their eviction from an unauthorised colony.
Ghaziabad: A large number of people on Saturday set a bus on fire and indulged in stone pelting in Ghaziabad to protest their eviction from an unauthorised colony.
To control the angry mob, the police was forced to lob teargas shells and open fire in the air.
The protestors blocked the National Highway-24 at Ghaziabad and pelted stones at policemen on Saturday morning during their protest, police sources said.
As the protest turned violent, police first resorted to lobbing teargas shells but couldn’t control the mob.
They then opened fire in air besides resorting to lathicharge, sources said.
The traffic on the NH-24 near Ghaziabad was disrupted for some time.
