Vadodara: For the second consecutive day, activists of a youth organisation in Vadodara on Thursday demonstrated against superstar Aamir Khan's latest movie Taare Zameen Par and threatened to prevent the release of the film on Friday.
Volunteers from the little-known “Hind Rakshak Samiti” burnt posters and demonstrated at the Aradhana Cinema and said that they will not allow the film to be screened in the city till Aamir Khan apologises for his remarks on the Narmada Dam.
The president of this organisation, Narendra Mishra, said, “We have asked the management of Aradhana Cinema not to screen the movie from on Friday till Aamir Khan apologises for his remarks on the Sardar Sarovar Project. If Aamir apologises, then the Samiti will allow the screening of the movie in the city.”
On Wednesday, a group identified as Sardar Patel Group headed by Manish Sanghani had staged a similar protest at three multiplexes – Inox, Chandan and PVR – in the city.
The management of several cinema houses said that they will not release Aamir's movie on Friday. Pushpendrasinh Rathore, the manager of INOX multiplex and Narendra Doshi of Aradhana Cinema said they will honour the feelings of the people of Gujarat on this issue and will not release the film.
Some months back, another Aamir Khan movie, Fanaa, was similarly prevented from being screened in Gujarat allegedly by members of the BJP's youth wing.
The youth wing then protested against the support that Aamir had publicly extended to the Narmada Bachao Andolan.
