Ranchi: Veteran drag-flicker Sandeep Singh struck twice from penalty corners to help Jaypee Punjab Warriors beat defending champions Ranchi Rhinos 3-2 in the last match of the Hero Hockey India League on Wednesday.
Sandeep scored in the 21st and 52nd minutes while Kieran Govers got the other Punjab goal in the 30th minute by converting another penalty corner.
Captain Moritz Furste (14th) and Ashley Jackson scored for the home side - also from penalty corners.
All the five goals of the match were scored from the penalty corners.
Both sides qualified for the semifinals while Delhi Waveriders and Uttar Pradesh Wizards also made it to the last four.
Jaypee Punjab Warriors ended the league stage on top of the table with 40 points from 10 matches. Delhi Waveriders were second on 39 points while Uttar Pradesh Wizards and Ranchi Rhinos were on 28 and 26 points respectively.
Dabur Mumbai Magicians and Kalinga Lancers failed to make it to the semifinals as they finished fifth and sixth on 18 and 17 points respectively.
The semifinals and the final will be played here on February 22 and 23 respectively.
