THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Author Puthussery Ramachandran, who turned 84 early this month, was honoured by the writers’ collective,  functioning under the Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan, at a function here on Monday. The felicitation event, titled ‘Sneha vandanam’, included a photography exhibition based on the life of the veteran writer who was actively involved in the freedom struggle and the cultural renaissance movement that swept Kerala since the early years of the last century.  The freeze frames showcased at Vyloppilli by Rajan, the owner of Maharaja’s Studio, had rare pictures that documented the eventful life history of Puthussery.  Pictures of his arrest from near Kollam for spearheading an agitation as part of the freedom struggle that was gaining momentum in every part of the country, the subsequent lock up in the Kasaba Police Station, and the shots from the World Malayalam  Conference held in 1977 under his initiative, speak volumes of his indelible imprint in the cultural milieu of the state. The felicitation meeting was presided over by the State Institute of Languages Director M R Thampan, who applauded the literary and academic contributions of Puthussery. The meeting was followed by ‘Kavya Sandhya’, a poetry reading session held on the third Monday every month ay Vyloppilli.Neelamperoor Madhusoodanan Nair, Ezhacheri Ramachandran, Sudrasanan Karthikaparambil, C P Sreekantan Nair,  P G Remadevi, Dr Subha and K G B Nair read their poems.
