THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Council for Child Welfare has selected the painting by K Rahul, a class V student of Kozhikode Balusseri Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, to be brought out as the Children’s Day stamp for 2011. It is from the 700-odd pictures that they received from various parts of the state that Rahul’s painting was chosen by the Council. The stamp would be released at a function hosted by the Council at its building here on November 14, Children’s Day. Ten-year-old Rahul is the winner of several water painting and pencil drawing competitions hosted by Forest Department, Vidyarangam, Kalasahitya Vedi, National Balatharangam, ‘Thathamma’ and ‘Balarama. He also writes poems, a collection of which, along with his sister Soorya’s, has been brought out under the title, ‘Manthalir’. Rahul himself creates illustrations for his poems. Rahul is the son of K Sreenivasan, an assistant field officer at the Veterinary Hospital Ayyankuzhy, and Vasanthi. Soorya, his sister, is a class VII student in Balusseri GGHS.
