HYDERABAD: With festivities come happiness and also come more reasons to shop and celebrate. And shopping does not only limit itself to clothing. It includes a range of accessories and decoratives for homes and offices. Mohammed Cap Mart unveiled a variety of ‘Jai-namaz', (rugs or carpets) a month long exhibition-cum-sale which offers prayer mats which are imported from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Belgium, Malaysia and India. According to Mohd. Ilyas Bukhari, managing director, Mohammed Cap Mart, prayer rugs are usually offered by people to masjids so that everyone can pray comfortably on it and acquire god's blessings. "Prayer mats come in two forms, velvet and cotton. A roll of rug for mosques would cost anywhere between Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 per sq  ft," he added. Apart from carpets, people buy caps, curtains, clothing and many other articles to mark the occasion and also to gift their dear ones. The most popular form of gifts among people are the caps. "Caps commonly called as "Namaaz ki topi" come in more than six varieties, that include, Qaraqul, Paanch Kali, Jinnah cap, Salar Jung cap and Kamaal Amrohi type," said Feroz Khan of Mohammedan Cap Mall, near Charminar.According to Khan, the Qaraqul caps are made from the fur of a Qaraqul breed of sheep in Kashmir and cost about Rs 1, 200 to Rs 1,500, whereas even Jinnah caps named after Mohammed Ali Jinnah are of a similar origin and cost about Rs 300. The Qaraqul caps are ordered from Kashmir, whereas the Jinnah caps are manufactured in Hyderabad itself. The Salar Jung caps and the Kamal Amrohi caps are also manufactured in Hyderabad and cost about Rs 400. A type of caps, known as Farid-Ullah Khan caps are bought from Rampur, which are made of cotton and cost just about Rs 130. No festival is complete without people buying new clothes for the occasion. "Clothing for men include sherwanis, Pathani suits, Zardozi and Kalamkari kurtas, which are bought within India from places like Mumbai, Delhi, Nagpur, Lucknow and Kolkata and are priced between Rs 700 to Rs 3,500 depending upon the work and effort put into it," said Mustafa Sait, operations director, Mohammedan Cap Mall.Furnishing of the house is equally important during festivals and hence people also buy new bed spreads and curtains which also come in different varieties and are manufactured in many parts across India. "We do have a variety of bed sets and we also take orders during Ramzan. People give us their idea, design and colour according to their requirements and we manufacture them," Feroz Khan said.
