BANGALORE: The High Court on Tuesday reserved its order on the petition filed challenging Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) move to lay a road through the land belonging to the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS).During the course of hearing, the division bench consisting of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice H G Ramesh asked the petitioners to pay attention to the fact that the road figures in the city development plan and the BBMP has made certain changes to its plans to ensure that the Bio Diversity Heritage Sites in the university campus are not affected. The BBMP advocate submitted that the civic agency had allocated `27.16 crore for the project and has already completed laying 3.9 km of the road at a cost of `15.19 crore and only 2.1 km stretch of the road work is pending. It may be recalled here that seven former vice chancellors of the Agriculture University and the University Employees Association had filed a PIL challenging the laying of the 9.5 Km link road through the university to connect Yeshwantpur and Yelahanka. The petitioners had contended that the research work being carried out at the Gandhi Krishi Vignan Kendra (GKVK) would be affected and around 688 roads would be cut if the road is laid through the university.
