Robbery bid foiled, 4 held

PUDUCHERRY: A bid to rob a petrol pump at Thattanchavady was thwarted by police on Friday with the arrest of  the four persons near Transport City.The four - Velmurugan, Muthuvel, Thyagu alias Thyagarjan and Karuppu Saravanan - were arrested by the Dhanvantri Nagar police led by inspector K L Viravallabhane during a routine patrol.However, another member of the gang, Logu escaped on a two-wheeler, close to his house in Transport City on  the Tamil Nadu border. He is believed to be in possession of a four-sovereign gold chain, which he robbed along with Velmurugan. The police also recovered deadly weapons from the four.Dhanvantri Nagar police sub-inspector R Inian told Express that the four arrested had murder cases against them and belonged to Anitha Nagar in Mudaliarpet.Logu, the one who got away hailed from Chennai. The four were allegedly involved in the killing of rival gang members, Poonaikan Shankar and Shanthakumar of Mudaliarpet.
