Mohali: The police on Thursday recovered Rs one crore in cash and other valuables from the residence of Fiza Mohammed alias Anuradha Bali, who was found dead in her Chandigarh home on Monday.
This comes two days after the autopsy report of the former wife of former deputy chief minister of Haryana, Chander Mohan Bali, indicated no injury marks on her body and said that the cause of her death was unclear.
The report, which came out on Tuesday, further said that the viscera had been sent for chemical examination.
The special investigation team (SIT) also found 1.5 kg of gold ornaments in an almirah, police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the SIT took all the recoveries in its procession in the presence of a Magistrate and was also verifying about Fiza's two bank accounts. Sources said that police will be investigating the sources of money.
Meanwhile, police again questioned Fiza's uncle Satpal in length, they said. Fiza's dead body was found on Monday at her Chandigarh residence by Satpal, who had gone to visit her. Satpal had come back to the house late on Monday night to take the car and some documents from the house but was sent back by the police guard. He had again visited the house on Tuesday and was once again sent back by the guard. Satpal somehow took away both mobiles of Fiza but these were recovered by the police on same day, the sources said.
Police said the SIT has questioned more than 15 people who were said to be close to Fiza including Satpal. Fifty CDs were also recovered from the house including one containing Chander Mohan SMSes, calls and their marriage photographs. Besides, the police had taken possession of Fiza's Honda CRV and Santro car on Wednesday.
The Mohali Police is probing the cause of her death, and are not calling it a suicide yet.
Fiza came into prominence in December, 2008, when she converted to Islam to marry Chander Mohan, son of Congress leader and former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal. Chander Mohan was then the deputy chief minister of Haryana.
The couple became estranged within three months and subsequently, Fiza charged Chander Mohan with rape. She also joined a reality show and reportedly signed a Bollywood movie. At one stage, she had even contemplated entering electoral politics and was reported to be getting close to the BSP.
Her body, in a decomposed and maggot-infested state was found by Mohali Police from her home on August 6 which suggested that her death might have occurred four to five days before her body was found. The police are trying to ascertain if her death was a case of suicide, murder or due to some other cause. Bottles of alcohol and cigarette stubs were reportedly lying around in the room where her body was found.
