Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said that the Cabinet has approved a Rs 50-crore scheme to rent out agricultural tools to farmers.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the 26th edition of ‘Krishi Mela’ at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) campus here on Sunday, he said the scheme had been mooted to help farmers who could not afford to go for mechanisation and tackle the shortage of workforce.
“The scheme will enable farmers to get agricultural equipment on rental basis through the Raita Samparka Kendras,” he said.
Shettar also informed that the government had set up a committee to look into the issues concerning the sugarcane growers. The committee, chaired by Minister for Agriculture Umesh Katti, had been asked to initiate action to fix a fair price for sugarcane and for revenue sharing between the owners of crushing units and farmers.
The chief minister hoped that the committee would submit its report within a month. Pointing out that the state government’s ‘Bhoo Chetana Fertility Enhancement Scheme’ had emerged as a model scheme for the entire country, he noted that this year the agricultural production had increased by 13.3 per cent in the state.
