KOLLAM: In yet another attack by sand mafia on law enforcing officers in the district, an Additional Tahasildar was attacked by a group at Meenadu, near here, on Tuesday evening. Kollam Additional Tahasildar R Vijayakumar had to face the ire of the sand mafia after he detained lorries used for transporting sand illegally near the Meenadu Bridge.“We were returning after conducting raids on illegal granite quarries in Chirakkara and Poothakkulam areas, when we saw sand being shifted from a lorry to two mini lorries. On finding that they had no authorised pass to transport the sand, I took the keys of the lorries and informed the respective village officer,” R Vijayakumar told Express.Vijayakumar said that later a group comprising a dozen people reached the spot and forcefully took away the keys of the lorries and his official mobile phone. The group also attacked the driver of his official vehicle.The Paravoor Police said that they seized two lorries in connection with the incident. No arrests have been made so far, they said.
