CHENNAI: All arrangements are in place for the by-election to Sanakarankoil Assembly constituency scheduled for March 18. All polling personnel, electronic voting machines and other materials reached the polling stations on Saturday. The total number of voters of the constituency are 2,06,087. Of them, 1,02,921 are men and 1,03,166 are women.SMS-based monitoring will take place throughout the day of polling to assess the status of polling going on in each polling station. Under this system, the Presiding Officers will be sending SMSs at pre-determined times indicating the progress of the poll, D Rajendiran, Special Chief Electoral Officer, said in an official release here.Through web-casting, poll proceedings would be monitored by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer right  from the beginning of the poll till closure. For this purpose, 10 monitors are installed in the CEO’s office control room.No polling agent would be allowed to leave the polling station after 3 pm on the polling day. Though polling hours are between 8 am, and 5 pm, the voters standing in the queue at 5 pm would be issued tokens and allowed to cast their votes.Voters should bring either photo identity card or voter slip to exercise their franchise. No other document would be accepted, the Special CEO said and added that the counting of votes for the by-election would take place on March 21.
