New Delhi: One of the accused in the Scarlette Keeling rape and murder case, Placido Carvalho has got bail.

Carvalho also known as Shanuboy has been told to surrender his passport and also give a surety of Rs 25000. He was arrested with Samson D'Souza for drugging, raping and ‘leaving Scarlett to die’ on Anjuna beach on February 18.

While Samson is the main accused in Scarlette case while Placido has been charged for conspiring with him in the offence.

The Goa government had on Wednesday transferred the Scarlette case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The move had come after Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said on March 25 that his government was willing to hand over British teenager’s case to the investigating body.

On Monday, the National Commission for Women (NCW) too came down heavily on the Goa police, accusing them of misleading authorities and public with their findings in the case.

After a fact-finding tour, a two-member team of the Commission blamed the police of trying to destroy evidence in the matter.
