VIJAYAWADA: Congress  leaders belonging to the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions have resolved to strongly impress upon the  Union government and the party high command the need for maintaining status quo and keeping the state united for its all-round development. The leaders, who met here on Saturday for about four hours, passed several resolutions in support of Samaikyandhra and discussed effective ways of conveying the sentiments of the Seemandhra people to the party high command during their three-day Delhi visit which begins on July 18. They will try to din into the ears of the leaders who matter that Seemandhra people want the Telugu-speaking people in all the three regions to live together and progress together.Reading out the resolutions at the end of the meeting, Krishna district Political JAC president Mandali Buddha Prasad, who presided over the meeting, said they would follow the vision of former prime minister Indira Gandhi who braved all odds to keep the state united. Andhra Pradesh would remain united as Indiramma Rajyam, he said. The leaders sought stern action by state and Union governments against the Telangana leaders who were making inflammatory speeches and using indecent language against Seemandhra people living and doing business in Hyderabad which is the state capital.Buddha Prasad said that Telangana leaders were misinterpreting AICC general secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh and Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad’s statement on Telangana. He said the meeting also strongly condemned Telangana leaders’ charge that some Seemandhra forces influenced Sri Krishna Committee’s report. The meeting also expressed its solidarity with organisations and political parties fighting for Samaikyandhra.Earlier, convener of Seemandhra Congress  MLAs and MLCs Forum and school education minister Sailajanath said that Telangana leaders’ argument that their region  was backward carried no truth as it saw a lot of development after the merger of Telangana with Andhra in 1956. He said that during the Nizam’s rule not many in Telangana were able to write in Telugu since Urdu was the medium of education then. The  literacy rate in the region went up considerably now. He said the ongoing Telangana movement was launched by a few mischievous and frustrated political leaders whose sole aim was to divide the Telugu people and gain politically from state’s bifurcation.Recalling that the unification of Telugu people came about only after many people like Potti Sriramulu sacrificed their lives,Sailajanath said that they were ready to do anything, including resigning from their positions and sacrificing their lives, for the sake of state’s unity.
