KOCHI: Amidst the ongoing diplomatic tussle over Enrica Lexie, top officials from the Union Shipping Ministry are coming to the city on Saturday.The new office complex of the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) will be inaugurated at the premises of the MMD office in Willindgon Island on Saturday at 10.30 am.K Mohandas, Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, will be the chief guest while S B Agnihotri, Director General of Shipping and Additional Secretary to the Union Government will preside over.Top shipping officials including Nautical Adviser to the Government of India Capt M M Saggi, Chief Surveyor A Banerjee, Cochin Port Trust Chairman Paul Antony, State Ports Department Secretary Manoj Joshy, Lakshadweep Administrator Amarnath, MMD Mumbai Principal Officer Capt L K Panda, New Mangalore Port Trust chairman P Tamilvanan, Cochin Shipyard Chairman and Managing Director Comde K Subramaniam, CPWD Chief Engineer A K Verma and MMD Kochi Principal Officer M P John will speak on the occasion.The visit of top Shipping officials to Kochi gains significance against the backdrop of the Enrica Lexie episode where two Indian fishermen were shot dead by two Italian marines.The MMD has been carrying out a detailed probe into the incident based on the directions from the Union Shipping Ministry. The probe will look into many controversial aspects surrounding the incident.The shipping officials will hold discussions in this regard in Kochi on Saturday.
