Shoojit Sircar: I did a sperm dance in my room!
You won't believe what an ecstatic Shoojit Sircar did after he heard his film Vicky Donor has won a National Award.

New Delhi: An ecstatic Shoojit Sircar did what he described as a 'sperm dance' in his room in Hyderabad after he heard his film Vicky Donor has shared a National Award for the Best Popular Film for providing wholesome entertainment with Ustad Hotel (Malayalam).

Produced by Sunil Lulla, John Abraham, Ronnie Lahiri and Ram Mirchandani, Sircar's Vicky Donor is the narrative of the life of a sperm donor in Delhi. Sircar and the producers will share the Swarna Kamal.

"I'm really happy the jury recognized a film on the taboo subject of sperm donation and infertility and thought it was wholesome entertainment," Sircar said over phone from the sets of Madras Cafe.

That's where he will be celebrating tonight.

But when he first heard of the news, he said he did a little sperm dance alone in his room.

"There's no difference between parallel and commercial cinema now. The distance has been reduced," he said on a more serious note. Vicky Donor has won big, with three National Awards to its credit.

The award for the best Supporting Actor has been conferred on Annu Kapur, for portraying a bumbling infertility specialist running his business from a rundown clinic. The Best Supporting Actress was shared by Dolly Ahluwalia and Kalpana for the film ThanichallaNjan (Malyalam). Ahluwalia played the domineering mother of Vicky (Ayushmann Khurana).

Sircar said this was a win for the writers as more subjects such as this will be tackled by mainstream filmmakers.
