Kochiites can finally breathe easy as the work on the sidebays of the North RoB is all set to be completed.
According to the officials with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the side-bays could be opened for the public by the middle of October.
“Since a portion of the sidebays goes above the railway tracks, we had to receive permission from the Railways regarding the timing at which it would be safe to complete the work above the railway tracks. We have been informed that the timetable has been completed and we will receive it within two days. With this in hand, the work on setting the girder will start by September 29,” said DMRC PRO Narayanan.
The 47-tonne steel girders, currently kept near the RoB, will be placed in the middle of the sidebays. “The girder is 2.4 metres wide. The rest of the work on the sidebays will be completed simultaneously with the work on the setting of the girder. The approach roads will also be completed by then and the bays opened to the public soon,” he said.
As per the timetable, only two or three hours per day will be allotted to the DMRC for setting the girder in the middle of the bridge. Most probably, the work will take place at night, so that it does not affect the train traffic or its safety,” the DMRC official said. Modifications will be brought in the timetable of trains running to and fro along this route during the work.
Once the side-bays are opened, the demolition of the old North RoB will be carried out in full swing.
Earlier, the work on the sidebays was expected to be completed by September. However, the delay in receiving the timetable from the Railways had posed a problem. Currently, the DMRC has also received the regulation on the power supply.
