Mumbai: Though she is open to exposing and doing intimate scenes on screen, Alia chose to make a safe debut with Karan Johar's family entertainer 'Student of the Year'.
The 19-year-old is the daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who is known for bold films and has churned out films including 'Raaz', 'Jism' and 'Murder'.
"I don't consider kissing a taboo. I won't do it (expose) for the heck of it. If the script demands and it is justified.. will do it. Like in 'Student of The Year' I have worn a bikini. I was very comfortable doing that because it was required and it isn't that I haven't worn bikini in real life," Alia told PTI.
She follows Bhatt camp films and there are a few she likes while others she does not.
"I love their (Vishesh Films') films. But that doesn't mean I love all their films. There are films that I don't like and I tell them about it too but there are films that I love as well," she said.
Considering the kind of films they make, Alia feels it was safe for her to debut with a family entertainer like 'SOTY'.
"You can call it safe. Bhatt camp makes films that are different. At the end of the day, it is all about how convincing you are onscreen. Like Emraan Hashmi started with Vishesh Films and today he is a superstar," she said.
The newbie, who made her debut with Johar's home production, says her father did not have any problem with it.
"My father did not have a problem at all. He was very close to Yash (Johar) Uncle. He is happy because he knew this is the kind of space I fit into. I am very young and fresh right now and Karan is the best to groom me. He knows I am in good hands," she said.
Even when she was doing a film outside her father's own production company, Alia says he was not curious to know anything about 'Student of the Year'.
"He did not want to know anything about the film. I remember he telling me that you do what you want and I will watch the film in Gaiety-Galaxy when it releases as an audience," she said.
Asked being a star-kid does has its benefits, she said, "It only helps in getting the platform. But if you are not able to deliver then it does not help. Karan Johar knew me as Pooja's (Pooja Bhatt) sister but if I wasn't able to stand out between those 500 girls who had come to audition for SOTY then he wouldn't have cast me in his film," she said.
The youngster also feels that only good films are accepted by the audience.
"Films across all genres are being made now. It is not only a comedy or entertainment packed industry anymore. Look at 'Gangs of Wasseypur'. Both parts were so different from the films that are made here. People actually loved it," she said.
Released on October 19, 'Student of the Year' is produced by Johar and Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chilies Entertainment
