TIRUCHY: Former deputy Chief Minister and DMK treasurer M K Stalin and his supporters were detained for about three hours on Saturday, when they staged a ‘road roko’ opposing the arrest of the party’s Tiruvarur district secretary, Poondi Kalaivanan.Tiruvarur police were on the look out for Kalaivanan, following a complaint against him in connection with the death of a school boy, who was taken by the DMK functionaries for their ‘samacheer kalvi’ agitation on Friday. As Kalaivanan was accompanying Stalin who was scheduled to attend functions at Thiruthuraipoondi and Mannargudi, police stopped his convoy near Alatthangudi and informed him that they wanted to arrest Kalaivanan. But, Stalin and other party functionaries objected to the arrest and demanded that they too be arrested with Kalaivanan.
