MANGALORE: When Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda urged Council Chairman and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to convene meetings regularly, he was perhaps oblivious of the stark realities back home. For the state’s own Integration Council has a poor record by not convening even one meeting after the notification on constituting the state Integration Council (IC) under chairmanship of the Chief Minister was released in January 2011.Sources told Express that other than a copy of the gazette notification (HD 650 SST 2008) with the list of 54 celebrated personalities in IC released to members and media in June this year, there has been no communication whatsoever from the government.IC headed by the CM, Home Minister, Wakf Minister, who are also members of NIC set up in 1962, has senior most bureaucrats, top brass in police, IGPs of western ranges and celebrities like Wipro chief Azim Premji, Sudha Murthy of Infosys, CSI Dharwad Bishop Prabhakar Rao, Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid.Four leaders from erstwhile D-K district — Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade, Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt, Manipal Education and Medical Group chairman Dr Ramdas Pai and social worker Wahida Ismail — have been nominated to the Council. Holding a meeting once in three months was made mandatory for the Council-entrusted with a huge responsibility of ensuring communal harmony in the state.
