BANGALORE: For the first time in Karnataka, water sports lovers can soon explore the marine life.With the government of India recently prioritising scuba diving project of state run Jungle Lodges and Resorts (JLR), Karnataka will soon gets its first scuba diving sight and will soon have scuba diving camps which is currently experienced by enthusiasts in Goa and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.The scuba diving camp will start at Netrani Island, Apsarakonda near Honnavar in U-K district. The island is suitable for diving activities because of the vast variety of aquatic life. “We have identified land in Apsarakonda to set up the camp,” said R K Singh, executive director (project and business development), JLR. “This project will cater to the increasing demands of eco-tourists. It will help them gain more knowledge about marine life,” he added. While prior adequate knowledge can enhance the scuba diving experience, the Jungle lodges will provide half day training to the participants with the help of Drewlanders Association of Diving Individuals (DADI).JLR will follow their rules and guidelines and safety standard procedures. Those who are trained by professionals recognised by DADI, can also instructor participants.Besides, JLR has also planned motor boats to take the participants to Nethriani island from Apsarakonda. The work will commence within a few months and is expected to be completed within a year-and-a-half, added Singh.
