Mumbai: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) of Mumbai has seized actress Sushmita Sen's Toyota Landcruiser on Friday.
After actors Suniel Shetty, Sunjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan, Sushmita is the latest to come under the DRI scanner for duty evasion on imported vehicles.
According to DRI sources, Sushmita's Landcruiser was imported last year with documents stating it's date of manufacture as 1998 and declaring its value at Rs 6 lakh.
However, after investigations, Toyota confirmed that the actual date of manufacture of the vehicle is 2003 bringing its market value to Rs 56 lakh with a duty payable of Rs 30 lakh.
Sushmita has been asked to pay up the balance of Rs 20 lakh as customs duty for the vehicle.
DRI sources said, Sushmita purchased the vehicle through dealer Haren Choksi in May last year.
DRI sought original manufacturing information from the manufacturer, Toyota, to ascertain the actual date of manufacture.
Meanwhile, DRI is keeping a close tab on several such imported cars as many similar cases have come up in the recent past.
