New Delhi: Adulation and love have been pouring in for newcomer Nimrat Kaur ever since her film 'The Lunchbox' released in India.
"People have embraced the film with so much love. I watched two shows with the audience and the response post the screening was absolutely wonderful," said the actress over a chat with IBNLive.com.
But while Nimrat is elated with the positive feedback she has been receiving for the film, the actress also is a bit disappointed with the Film Federation of India as it chose a Gujarati film called 'The Good Road' as India's official entry to Oscars over 'The Lunchbox'.
"We all had hoped that it would get selected. In fact, we believed it had a strong chance to get selected in the top 5," says Nimrat. "Forget us, the kind of reception that the film has received at various international film festival, the buzz that was around the film- there was definitely a good chance for the film at the Oscars," added the actress.
Nimrat was also quick to add that it was heartening to see that a regional film was selected to represent India at an international platform. "It is good thing. And my best wishes to the film. Hope it gets selected but 'The Lunchbox' had all the factors going for it."
Directed by Ritesh Batra, the film has got a good response from critics and audiences alike. Most, including author Salman Rushdie, felt that the film should have been India's entry to Oscars this year in the Best Foreign Film category.
"One has to lobby a lot in Oscars. The people who are part of the jury there usually don't have the time or patience to go through unknown films. They tend to show interest in films which have a buzz in the press or the ones which are commercial. 'The Lunchbox' had a German producer, a French producer-which, I feel, would have helped the movie in getting shortlisted. One has to be practical and see what has been widely watched and accepted and make optimum use of those factors," reasons Nimrat.
Lauding her co-star from the film, Irrfan Khan, Nimrat said she hoped that he received a National Award for his performance. "It's his best work till date. He was absolutely sublime in the film and I really hope he gets recognition for it."
Having played a lonely housewife yearning for affection from her husband, Nimrat's character Ela struck a chord with most women. "They came and hugged me. Felt overwhelmed by their love. Perhaps, many of them identified with the film and Ela," said the actress.
The actress, who is a known face in the Mumbai theatre circuit, hasn't yet signed a new film. "I am in no hurry. I'll see what kind of work is offered to me and decide. Will take my time," says Nimrat.
