THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A traditional ‘Theyyam kavu’ would be the highlight of the December Fest as part of the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF) to be held here from December 25 to January 15. The visitors, including foreigners, would have the rare opportunity to experience the ritual in its pure form, said a release here on Saturday. Theyyam performers from Kasargod and Kannur districts will attend the programme. The performances will be held in the traditional way without using a stage.  Kuttichathan (Sasthappan) and Karuval Bhagavathy will be staged on the first day. The other Theyyams to be staged would include Agni Kandakarnan, Vasoorimala, Bhairavan, Gulikan, Thiruvappana, Vellattam, Pottan Theyyam and Raktha Chamundi. Ilankolam will be staged on the final day which will be followed by the ritualistic ‘kodiyirakkam’. The visitors can also watch the artistes adorning the makeup and there would also be demonstrations. A traditional Adivasi Ooru (tribal hamlet) and ethnic cuisine are also part of the fest.  An amusement park for children and handloom village would be the other highlights of the event to be held in association with Kerala Kaumudi daily, the release said.     Celebrity Cricket to be Held as Part of GKSFA celebrity cricket will be held as part of the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival Season-5 at Kaloor International Stadium, Ernakulam, on December 27. Titled ‘Grand Kerala T20-Celebrity Cricket’, the event will be held in association with AMMA and Kerala Cricket Association. AMMA will be the main organiser of the event. ‘Kerala Strikers’, will have actor Mohanlal as its captain, and ‘Kerala Legends’, would have Ministers, Opposition members of the Assembly and prominent business persons as team members. The contest will be held at 7.30 p.m. on December 27. The inaugural function will be marked by the staging of ethnic art forms, pyrotechniques and laser show.The tickets will be sold through South Indian Bank branches. Tickets will be available at `100, `200, `500 and `1,000.
