Besides Rumpa Das, other teachers who took part in the expedition were Prashant Singh and Subrata Ghosh.

An English teacher named Rumpa Das from the Coopers Colony High School (Krishnanagar, West Bengal) is in the headlines after she conquered the Ramjak peak (6318 metres) in Lahaul district, Himachal Pradesh. According to Local 18 Bengal, Rumpa became the first Indian woman to accomplish this feat. She is one of the 3 teachers among the 12 members of the Mountaineers’ Association of Krishnanagar. Besides Rumpa Das, other teachers who took part in the expedition were Prashant Singh and Subrata Ghosh. Prashant is a Geography teacher from the Bamun Pukur High School in Nadia, while Subrata Ghosh teaches at the Kapashati Milanbithi High School, PS No. 170, North 24 Parganas. The flags of these three West Bengal schools were hoisted on the Ramjak. Everest conqueror Vasant Singh Roy led this 12-member group to the peak and they reached Himachal Pradesh on June 30.

Vasant said that their trekking group started on June 4 and reached Chuminakpo. According to Vasant, the trekkers established their base camp at a height of 4620 metres. Base Camp is the place from which people go to climb mountains. The team continued to climb, reached the first camp and then arrived at the second camp as well. The team headed by Mt Everest conqueror Vasant Singh Roy with five members and three Sherpas out of 12 members set out for the summit on July 10 at 01 AM.

The names of the other members are Asim Kumar Mandal and Yudu Debnath. They managed to arrive at the peak at 4.45 am.

This team of the Mountaineers Association of Krishnanagar had tried their best to reach the Ramjak mountain in 2021 as well. They couldn’t succeed in their attempt. Now, when this team has reached its peak, they are happy to see their endeavours turning successful.

Mountain climbing is by nature risky and can be quite dangerous unless climbers are properly trained. Climbers test their skills, strength, balance, resourcefulness, courage, and endurance as they master difficult conditions and terrain. Many also gain satisfaction from experiencing the grandeur of nature.
