CHENNAI: Balaji and Arun Laxman from Caterpillar Corporation emerged winners in the eighth edition of the the Tata Crucible Business Quiz 2011, taking home a prize money of `75,000. The duo outperformed their competitors in the business quiz, held at Chinmaya Heritiage Centre on Saurday, with their sharp responses. The runners-up, Senthil Kumar and Vivek Venkatesan from Infosys Technologies Ltd, were awarded a cash prize of `35,000. The winners scored 35 points, closely followed by the runners-up, who scored 20 points. Caterpillar took an early lead after the first two rounds and maintained it to be crowned as the first time champions at the Tata Crucible Business Quiz. The other finalists were Wipro, Infosys, Sanmar Group and Yes Bank. They were put through  five rounds based on global knowledge, knowledge snapshots, Tata World, lateral knowledge and depth of knowledge. Some of the lesser known facts such as the TCS Siruseri facility being known as the giant wasp of the world, came out during the quiz. The other interesting quiz answers were Sol Koffler founded American Tourister, the brand that performed tests such as drop, jerk, wheel and tumble; Morris Michtom and his wife Rose accidentally stumbled upon something, after which they went on to make the rage Teddy Bear. The prizes were given away by quizmaster Giri Balasubramaniam. The regional champions will now battle it with 18 other Non Tata Track regional winners from 18 cities at the national finals in October.
