Chennai: The Central Crime Branch registered a case of cheating and criminal intimidation against former chief minister M Karunanidhi’s daughter and her son-in-law, in connection with a land sale. Following the Madras High Court direction to the police to investigate a complaint from V Nedumaran of Valasaravakkam here, alleging V M Jothimani, son-in-law of the former Chief Minister’s daughter, of cheating him on purchase of a piece of land at Thalambur village.
He said Jothimani claimed to be the power agent of 2.94 acres in the village and promised to sell the property for Rs 5.14 crore. He paid an advance of Rs 3.50 crore. But after receiving the sum, Jothimani neither executed the sale nor returned the money. Instead, he started threatening him. When he went to the principal owner, S Selvi, mother-in-law of Jothimani, he was attacked, the petition said.
On September last, Nedumaran said, he lodged a complaint with the City Police Commissioner, who in turn forwarded it to the Deputy Commissioner and inspector, T Nagar. His complaint was left unattended. The court directed the T Nagar police to investigate the complaint after due enquiries.
Consequent to the court order, the Central Crime Branch registered a case against Selvi and Jothimani under Sections 406(criminal breach of trust), 420(cheating) and 506-1(criminal intimidation) and summoned the complainant for questioning.
