ROURKELA: Protesting spiralling prices of petroleum products and the economic policies of the Congress-led UPA Government, five trade unions on Thursday took out a protest march here. The Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) staged a demonstration separately. As many as 11 unions, affiliated to the HMS, led by its national vice-president Rajendra Prasad Singh and Orissa unit working president BD Barik staged a dharna and a memorandum, addressed to the Prime Minister, was handed over to the Rourkela ADM PC Pathi. They protested the frequent fuel price hike and prevailing inflationary pressure on general commodities. The HMS leaders also insisted on stopping disinvestment in public sector undertakings and practice of contractual appointments besides increasing the daily wage of contract worker to ` 300. Separately, CITU, AITUC, BMS, SUCI and CPI (ML) activists took out their rallies, culminating at the ADM office and submitted a memorandum. The memorandum sought price regulation of petroleum products. Sambalpur: The INTUC, BMC, HMS, AITUC and CITU activists observed protest day and staged a demonstration in front of the collectorate here on Thursday protesting rise in prices of fuel and essential commodities.    They came in a rally and submitted a memorandum, addressed to Prime Minster Manmohan Singh, to Sambalpur ADM Harihar Mallick. The members expressed discontent over the frequent and unilateral increase in prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene and LPG on the  plea of global crude oil prices.
